AYBA Summer 2008 Rules:
GENERAL INFORMATION:
- Up to 10 players per team, dependent upon sign-ups.
- Division Directors have option of conducting a draft or making up team themselves.
- Coaches selected should have coached this past winter. It is suggested that new coaches be paired with an experienced coach.
- Extreme care/caution should be utilized when selecting coaches. All coaches must exemplify the league's mission and adhere to its Code of Conduct.
- All coaches must be approved by Coaches' Selection Committee.
- Coaches supply game balls. No new balls will be issued.
- Use summer score sheets.
- Teams provide scorekeeper/timekeeper. 2 refs on floor, none at table.
- Must be 15 or older to sit at table and score or timekeep.
- Coaches responsible for gym maintenance. Coaches of last game each evening responsible for gym clean-up or, if outside, cleaning up and putting everything away. Knee pads highly recommended for outdoor play-especially for lower grades.
- ABSOLUTELY NO FOOD OR DRINKS IN GYMS, INCLUDING WATER BOTTLES. THIS IS IMPERATIVE AND MUST BE STRICTLY ENFORCED. THE LEAGUE STANDS TO LOSE ITS GYM PERMITS IF WE DO NOT COMPLY.
- No standings; no reporting of scores/wins.
- Games are scheduled one hour apart. Please stay on schedule.
- Division directors will be informed when uniforms will be available.
- 100% refund before June l; no refund thereafter
SPECIAL SUMMER GAME RULES:
All AYBA rules apply with the exception of the following for the summer:
Time Periods:
- Four 10 minutes quarters, running clock, including running during last two minutes of game.
2 minute half-time; 1 minute between quarters. No overtime.
2- One minute time-outs per team, per half; no carryover.
Playing Time:
- EACH PLAYER MUST PLAY A MINIMUM OF TWO (2) FULL COMPLETE/UNINTERRUPTED QUARTERS IN THE GAME. PLAY IN LESS THAN THE FULL 10 MINUTES IN A QUARTER (EXCEPT FOR AN INJURY) DOES NOT MEET THIS REQUIREMENT. No Substitutions allowed in the first half.
Defense:
- All divisions (Boys and Girls) may defend using either zone or man-to-man defense.
- For 1st/2nd Grade Boys and Girls divisions: Defense can be played starting 3 feet from the half-court line.
Press:
- No press for ALL 1st/2nd and 3rd /4th grade divisions.
- Boys 5th, 6th, and 7th grade divisions (and Girls HS division) may press at anytime, with the exception of a 15 point or greater lead.
- Girls 5th, 6th grade and up may press during the last 2 minutes of the half and the game - with the exception of a 15 point or greater lead.
- Boys 8th grade thru high school may press at any time.
- Foul Shooting: 10th team foul in each half is bonus-2 shots (no 1 +1).
- 2 shot fouls: make first, get 2 points.
- 3 shot fouls: make first get 3 points; make second get 2 points; miss second take third for 1 point
- 1st and 2nd grade boys and girls division for the summer only, any foul called on a player will result in the team receiving the ball out of bounds instead of shooting free throws. Each foul will count as a personal foul on the player and a team foul. Once a team has committed 10 team fouls in any half the team with possession of the ball will shoot free throws. If the first one goes in it will count for 2 points. If the shot is missed, and the second one goes in, it will count for 1 point.
- 2nd to 5th grade (Girls 5th/6th): 5 seconds in the key. 13 foot foul line.
Boys 6th grade and up (Girls 7th and up): 3 seconds in the key. 15 foot foul line.
- A player who commits a 6th foul, and who has previously met the 2 quarter .--minimum play requirement, is out of the game and may not return (including in overtime)as long as the team has one or more eligible players.
